American Impressionist Harold Rotenberg,
born in 1905, has
lived through two world wars, the invention of the television, the
great Depression, and progress in business and technology in a rapidly
changing society. A representative of both the past and the present,
Rotenberg and his work link together over a century of art and
culture. His style, highly influenced by impressionism, is vibrant.
Like the impressionists, Rotenberg utilizes color as a means to
express change in place, time and circumstance. Rotenberg's
application of paint is a synthesis of the brush work of Monet and
Cézanne. As Monet's brush work gave the facade of the Rouen Cathedral
individuality and Cézanne's raised Mont-Ste-Victoire, so too does
Rotenberg use his application of paint to construct battered fishing
boats and sensuous landscapes. In each painting he secures a unique
sense of place, time and character. In addition to the exhibition,
