DAVID CURTIS
INDOOR OIL  WORKSHOP 3 DAYS

February 19th - February 21st

David will instruct an indoor workshop based on observing and utilizing the technique of Rockport Art Association's finest painters, among them: Aldro T. Hibbard, N.A., Anthony Thieme, Marguerite Pearson, and W. Lester Stevens, N.A.

Copying from the masters is a time-honored tradition in the art world, as students use their observational skills to emulate the methods of those artists who have gone before. Students will find that when they study how successful artists have created their canvases, their own work will benefit from that acquired knowledge.

During this 3-day workshop, students will create either one small painting per day, or one larger canvas, which they will work on over three days.

TOM SUTHERLAND
INDOOR WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP 3 DAYS

February 26th - February 28th

PAINTING SPONTANEOUS AND EXPRESSIVE WATERCOLORS
FROM PHOTOGRAPHS

Tom will explore the process of using  photographs as a source for creating exciting watercolors that look like they were painted "en plein air".

Students can work from either their own photographs or those supplied by the
instructor. Students will create their own paintings under Tom's watchful eye, who will give individual instruction throughout the day.

Tom will do at least one demonstration painting each  day during which he will
explain his methods and thought process. At the end of each day a group critique session will be held. This is a invaluable learning tool to create better works of art.

MARY MINIFIE
STILL LIFE OIL WORKSHOP 3 DAYS

April 9th - April 11th

The workshop will begin with a discussion about composition. We talk about color, the variation of intensity, a balance of reds, blues and yellows and color harmonies. Variety of size of the object and grouping into larger value units is also discussed as is the importance of arranging things to have a good light/dark spotting effect.  On the first morning there will be a demonstration of what to look for in the “start” phase of the painting. In the afternoon of the first day, students will pick a still life and do a small study for composition. The next two days will be work on the actual painting. The workshop will consist of six sessions, three hours each. The teaching emphasis will be placed on good compositional placement on the canvas, accurate color notes and lots of help with drawing and rendering the forms.  All of these elements work together to produce the effect of beauty!

JACK KELEDJIAN
INDOOR OIL  PORTRAIT WORKSHOP 3 DAYS

April 16th - April 18th

This "Alla Prima Impressions" workshop will consist of technical, emotional and intellectual approaches to oil painting. Daily demonstrations will be followed by one on one instruction and critiques. Students will focus on basic aspects of drawing value and color with their initial exploration of the chosen subject, specifically the value tone, edges and temperature of the light source. This focus will carry throughout the design to emphasize the subject's center of interest and manipulation of the paint application, as a mosaic of harmonic color notes. Hagop (Jack) will help students to create a complete statement on the canvas and to finish their painting.
