EXHIBITING ARTIST MEMBERSHIP - Application INFORMATION
Exhibiting Artist Members in the categories of Painting, Graphics*, Sculpture and Photography are admitted through an annual jury process which evaluates the merit of their work, based on professionalism of technique and originality. They are some of the country's most talented fine artists and fine art photographers.
The RAA&M is one of the oldest and most active art associations in the United States. Benefits of membership as an Artist Member include: exhibition opportunities in solo, member group juried and non-juried shows; opportunities to instruct and attend workshops; and participation in year-round classes, sketch groups, lectures and artist demonstrations. Professional membership at the RAA&M is a juried application process. A Membership Jury comprising Artist Members of the RAA&M reviews applications annually.

Residency in New England for four consecutive weeks or other affiliation as outlined in Article III,
Section I of the RAA&M Bylaws1, set forth below:
Any artist actively engaged in the pursuit of any of the fine arts of painting, sculpture, or the graphic arts, and who (a) has lived for a period of at least one month in New England and has submitted appropriate written proof of such residency …, or (b) either currently owns and operates an art gallery or actively participates in the ownership and operation of a cooperative gallery in Rockport or Gloucester for the display and sales of works of art, … (c) either currently owns or operates a professional studio or actively participates in the ownership and operation of a cooperative studio in Rockport or Gloucester for the creation, promotion, and appreciation of works of art, may be a candidate for admission as an Artist Member, [or] (d) teaches a workshop or art class at the [RAA], may be a candidate for admission as an Artist Member.

Payment of a $40.00 non-refundable application fee is required. You may apply in more than one category for one application fee, but must submit five (5) pieces of work per category. Make check payable to the Rockport Art Association & Museum. When an applicant is accepted as a new member, the application fee will be applied to his or her annual dues for that year.
Completion of the application process is as follows:
Applicants are required to deliver and submit five (5) works to the Membership Jury in the category for which they are applying (Painting, Graphics, or Sculpture). No work done in class or under supervision may be submitted.
Paintings and graphics must be suitably framed to a professional standard. Paintings and graphics must be no smaller than 6” x 8” image size and no larger than 48” horizontal image size; there is no restriction on vertical size. Sculpture must not exceed life size in dimension.
Neither the RAA&M, its members, agent, employees, nor any volunteer acting on behalf of the RAA&M, will be held responsible for loss or damage. The RAA&M does not take responsibility for burglary, theft, or any other damage. Applicants should take proper precautions in fastening pictures in frames and attaching labels. Submitting a work of art to the RAA&M for membership consideration constitutes agreement on the part of the applicant with all conditions set forth in this application. The RAA&M does not offer insurance on works submitted by applicants. Insurance is the sole responsibility of the applicant.
Drop-Off Day: Monday, November 5, 2018, 10 AM – 3 PM. Artwork must be delivered to the RAA&M.
Jury Day 2018: Wednesday, November 7, 2018
Pick-Up Day: Thursday, November 8th, 10 AM – 3 PM. Artwork must be removed from the RAA&M
Reception for New Exhibiting Artist Members: Saturday, November 10, 2018, 2 - 4 PM
Paintings and Graphics – image size no smaller than 6 x 8 in. and no larger than 48 in. horizontal.
*The Graphics category includes all drawing mediums and printmaking. Pastels are generally considered painting unless they are used in a sketch-like manner with paper showing.
Photographs – no prints smaller than 11 x 14 in. and no frames larger than 20 x 24 in.
Sculpture – must not exceed life size in dimension

The Jurors use a silent and anonymous method of voting. Work that receives 60/40 votes is reviewed a second time and a juror may then speak up in defense or opposition for an applicant. Applicants are accepted on the quality and professionalism of the artwork. Due to the silent voting process, feedback is not given to applicants who are not accepted.
Artists will be notified by phone if they have or have not been accepted for membership. It takes time for us to reach everyone, so please be patient - you will be called.
Painting, Graphics, Sculpture: $150
* Application Fee will be subtracted if accepted as a member.
