LISBON PORTRAITS: OTTO LASKE’S ONE ARTIST SHOW

  • Rockport Art Association & Museum (map)

The works in this show are conceived as a tribute to the elderly of Lisbon, Portugal, as well as elderly anywhere. They have two sources: (1) photographs Otto took in 2003 that were affixed to house walls in the medieval district of Mouraria, Lisbon, and (2) variations of self-portraits Otto took in Lisbon in 2009.

“My goal has been to evoke a symbolic – rather than realistic – sense of the person in focus. I’ve treated my photographic materials as components of an imagined portrait that unites the person portrayed with his or her surroundings and circumstances. In doing so, I’ve disregarded conventional boundaries between photography, painting, and graphics.”

Color Transitions : Olga Gernovski's One-Artist Show

Color Transitions is an exhibition of oil paintings by artist Olga Gernovski that celebrates the sunlight through the leaves, through the flowers, and the inspiration of what nature is generously giving us every day. This exhibition represents fall, Olga’s favorite time of year - the most colorful season, and opens Thanksgiving weekend when people are grateful for many things in life.

“I wish for the people looking at my paintings to feel the acuteness of a red blossom, transparency of glass, rushing forces of nature and the thrill of human emotions. At those moments, lines flow as music and every artwork is a confession.”

OPENING RECEPTION FOR WILD FLORA AND FAUNA OF CAPE ANN IN CUBES : PAUL CIARAMITARO - ONE-ARTIST SHOW

  • Rockport Art Association & Museum (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

An exhibition of oil paintings by Gloucester artist, Paul Ciaramitaro, will open in the Marguerite Pearson Room of the Rockport Art Association & Museum.

Paul Ciaramitaro is primarily a realist painter, however he occasionally enjoys painting in a Cubist style and his creative explorations in Cubism are featured in this exhibit.

Paul Ciaramitaro, a lifelong resident of Cape Ann, began his love of art as a child. Over the years, he has been influenced by the Renaissance artists, as well as Aldro T. Hibbard, Emile Gruppe and especially Charles Movalli. In the 1970’s, Paul became a student of Movalli’s and was deeply inspired by him. He told Paul, “If you learn something from every painting you do, you will become an artist.”

In between his grueling hours as a commercial fisherman and dockworker, Paul sketched and painted in his spare time and worked hard to glean all that he could from his mentors. His commitment and talent led him to become a well-established and accomplished Cape Ann artist. His paintings have won many awards and his work can be found in both private and corporate collections, as well as in prestigious galleries and museums such as the Cape Ann Museum.

Over the past several decades, Paul has taught numerous classes and workshops, which have been widely attended, and he has served as a juror for many exhibitions. He is a juried artist member of both the North Shore Arts Association and the Rockport Art Association & Museum.

When asked about being an artist Paul says, “I’m serious about it. I’m passionate about it and I love it!”

October 27, 2018 - November 8, 2018
OPENING RECEPTION: October 27, 2018, from 2 - 4 PM

Medley - An exhibition of paintings by Barbara Donnelly will open in the Marguerite Pearson Room of the Rockport Art Association & Museum. As well as painting New England, she has enjoyed painting abroad, studying the varying light, landscape and architecture in France, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Puerto Rico, Portugal and China. Her work has found collectors in each of these countries.

“A New England native, I have a natural love of the seacoast. Wherever I am in the world, the water, boats, nearby villages and the local people have a spirit that engages me. To saturate my paintings with the color, light and life that embrace their true “essence” is my desire. To ‘capture the moment’ en plein air is pure pleasure.”

Judy’s latest series is entitled SELFIES - These are not a visualization of simply her outer self (EXTERIOR), but a visualization of her inner self (INTERIOR).

Just as life is a journey, so is the pursuit of art; every day brings new discoveries, challenges, surprises, and some successes. Also some failures, hopefully, the learning kind. My art will always be of the moment, learning from each creation, using that knowledge to continue to experiment.

At this point, I cannot stand by and watch a great number of my fellow Americans descend further and further into irrational and immoral hysteria --- I ask myself: What is going on? How does one cope? The mind cannot support moral chaos for long. Visualizing my frustrations has given me an outlet for all of this stress, and also great satisfaction.

Imagine, after 35 years as a graphic designer, solving other people’s problems, to be turned loose in a studio, with all the tools necessary for creating a completely new way to express my self every day . . . I am in heaven!”
