Though painting on site comes with its own set of challenges, it is the artist’s surest way to learn how to create the feeling of “being there” in their painting. In this two-day workshop, we will focus on choosing and designing a composition that leads you into the painting and using values and color temperature to create the feeling of light on your canvas.
Each day will start with a discussion of technique and philosophy and a short demonstration. Students will then have the opportunity to paint, receiving individual instruction at each step. Our goal is to not only to produce better plein air paintings, but to gain new insights that will inform our studio work.
This is an oil painting workshop, but students are welcome to paint in a different medium if they choose.
