Pam Stratton is a contemporary mixed media mosaic artist. She does both representational and abstract work. In her modern work, she uses the ancient traditional tools of hammer and hardie to cut materials. Her work is mostly un-grouted which allows for a mix of materials of uneven thickness, giving it a sculptural quality. She relishes the exploration of materials and new techniques and is currently incorporating tissue paper and reed, encaustic wax and eco printing into some of her mosaics and sculptures. Her work ranges from large mosaics inserted into trees to intricate mosaic jewelry.

Pam is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists, the New England Mosaic Society, the Cape Ann Artisans, the Rockport Art Association & Museum, North Shore Arts Association, and the Rocky Neck Art Colony. Her work has been shown in the Somerville Museum, the Fuller Craft Museum, The Rockport Art Association, The North Shore Arts Association, the Chicago Mosaic School, the Parthenon Museum in Nashville, TN and the Museum of Man in San Diego, CA.

“Creating a mosaic is a deeply focusing activity like meditation. I enjoy the solid permanence of the materials, their weight, texture, and history. I often work with stone and glass together as it reflects my surroundings — the granite coast and ever-changing sea.”

Pam selects themes from the simple surprises in nature’s beauty- - the way sunlight spotlights a shape, the texture of the forest floor, or the amazing patterns left in the sand from the outgoing tide.
