Youth & Teen Programs


Summer At The Seashore is taught by Rockport Public Schools teachers Sarah Tetrault & Sarah Brown, as well as RAA&M Education Coordinator Fen Hayes.

Returning for its third year, Summer At The Seashore is an Art and Nature Program for Children (ages 6-12).

Students will enjoy Nature-themed art exploration, movement, and outdoor fun!

SCHEDULE
9:00 AM ~ Arrival, warm up exercises, drawing and science lesson
9:30 AM ~ Inside project, exploration or outside nature drawing
10:30 AM ~ Movement, share and snack
11:00 AM-12:00 PM ~ Studio/craft project

WHAT TO WEAR
Because we will be outside every morning and walking to our outdoor drawing sites, your children should wear:
• Comfortable, weather appropriate clothing
• Socks & sneakers or walking shoes
• Rain slicker or boots when appropriate
• Sunscreen & bug spray

WHAT TO BRING
• Water bottle & snack

Week 1: Sea Creature Feature with Sarah B. - Watercolors & more
Registration deadline: June 29

What kinds of crazy critters live in the ocean around Cape Ann? Each day, we’ll focus on a few strange and wonderful denizens of the deep and make multi-media art featuring their physical traits!

Week 2: Color Color Everywhere with Fen H. - Multimedia & Collage
Registration deadline: July 6

Using sketchbooks on our art & nature walks and multimedia in the Studio, we’ll explore all our favorite colors and how they interact with texture, saturation, and contrast. Summer is full of vibrant colors to experiment with!

Week 3: Cape Views with Sarah B. - Observational Art
Registration deadline: July 20

Try out landscapes, cityscapes, and seascapes with us this week! We’ll experiment with viewfinders, playing with plein air techniques, and creating all kinds of art based on how we see the world!

 

Week 4: Portraits in Everything with Sarah T. - Multimedia Portraits
Registration deadline: July 27

Join us as we find faces in trees, clouds, rocks, and more this week, along with making portraits of each other!

Week 5: Nature Detectives with Fen H. - Nature Journaling
Registration deadline: August 3

What do we look for when we identify things in nature? This week, we’ll learn some fun facts about how to identify plants, birds, pollinators, and more while we make all kinds of paintings, collages, and nature prints for our journals!

Create Together is a drop-in program and a great way to try your hand at creating art in an informal, inspiring environment.

A different art activity will be offered in our large galleries each session. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Creative Curiosities | All ages

Creative Curiosities is a workshop series offering a multigenerational space for community members to connect with each other through exploring a variety of heritage art methods and mediums. Creative Curiosities is a special collaboration between the Rockport Art Association & Museum, Cape Ann Art Haven, and the Rockport Public Library made possible by the Essex County Community Foundation’s Creative County Initiative.

 
 
 

Create Together | kids 12 & under

Create Together is a free, drop-in program offering a wide variety of activities to create art in an informal, inspiring environment. A different art project or seasonal activity will be offered in our large galleries all year long. Art-making activities are designed for all ages and abilities; children must be accompanied by an adult.
