Painting on location in Rockport, this two-day workshop with Sam Vokey will focus on the initial stage of laying in the composition, getting the values right, and paying attention to color.
Sam will paint a demo on the first morning and you can witness his direct impressionistic approach. Watching an experienced artist paint the first stage of a painting is one of the most instructive things you can do to improve your own painting. Sam will keep up a lively dialogue answering questions as he goes. After the demo, each of you will set up and work on your own paintings as Sam gives you guided instruction, tips, and strategies along the way. Painting landscapes over consecutive days will help you to produce your best work. At the end of the second day, we will all get together and have a critique session where we look at all the work and discuss what we have accomplished.
Participants may paint in any medium. The painting demonstration will be in oil.
All skill levels are welcome. Space is limited.
Please bring your preferred plein air painting materials.
